Squid Sundae

Take skin and inside of squid, wash and stuff it with sticky rice, radish leaves, carrot, onion and sesame leaf, then steam the whole thing – you have to try squid Sundae in Sokcho to taste a real one, since Sokcho has the freshest squid and taste of squid is the key of great taste. Squid Sundae is chewy, delicious and also nutritional to be a great dish as a meal.

Refugees from Hamgyeong Province in the Korean War settled down in Cheongho-dong of Sokcho, namely Abai Village. A must-have dish in Abai Village is Abai Sundae, which is a renowned food of Hamgyeong Province. Mixture of sticky rice, pig blood, cooked sprouts and various vegetables are seasoned with various seasonings including garlic and ginger. Stuff the mixture into intestine of pig, then steam it to make Sundae. It is huge in size, which is totally different from sundae you buy from cities. As soon as you put it in the mouth, its unique scent will fill your mouth and as you start to chew it, its soft, sticky and deep taste will fascinate you. Abai Sundae is also great to taste with flatfish Sikhae.
