2km from Gyejoam (hermitage) emerges a big rocky mountain called Ulsanbawi. This rocky peak is also called Cheon-gong-san beause when it thunders on Mt. Seoraksan, the loud thunder echoes on the rocky Ulsanbawi is 873m above sea level and is constructed of 6 pointed rocky peaks. It is the tallet known rocky mountain in Asia, so tall and pointy that even a bird can't easily land on it. the enormous peak bears many legends.

The Legend of Ulsanbawi (rock)
God wanted to ceate the most beautiful scenery on earth called in all the mountain peaks to Mt. Geumgangsan to appraise them. Ulsanbawi (rock), which originally was located in Ulsan of Gyongsang province, belatedly heard the news and huried to Mt. Geumgangsan, but couldn't get there in time. Now, Ulsanbawi (rock) was embarrassed to go back home that way. He looked around to see where wouldbe a good place to settle down. He had slept one night at Serok, and thought it was the best place, and settled down there.
