Cheongchogo lake is located at the center of Sokcho city. The city actually started to form surrounding this lake.
Cheongchoho lake is one of the few lakes in the world that has value as a natural lagoon.
A scholar of Joseon Dynasty also sighted Cheongchoho lake as one of the 8 scenic beauties of Joseon. The lake resembles the appearance of an ox lying on its side.

This body of water links the waters of waters of Mt. Seoraksan and the East Sea. It become known worldwide with the hosting of the International Travel EXPO.
A pleasure boat sailing through the East Sea starts from Cheongchoho lake.

Migrating site
Sokcho is a host to a variety of birds due to its geological cinditions. Cheongchoho lake and Yengnangho lake are widely known sites for the Whistling Swan. It is also a wintering ground for thousands of seagulls and a number of species of ducks. There are 216 species of birds observed at Cheongchoho lake, including Manchurian Ducks, Stints, Grey Herons,Cormorants, and Grey Plovers. Between November and February is a good time for a migrating bird excursion.
