This festival is an improved version of an age-old mountain religious ceremony. The first Seorak festival was held in October 1996, in the form of arts festival and hiking excursion, and was participated mostly by artists and mountain lovers. From then on, it developed into Sokcho's most important cultural festival.
Staring with the pre-festival, a variety of events, including music performances, dance performances, touch games and films are staged. The Festival is held in early October each year.
