As the main building of Sinheungsa, Amitadha enshrined, Geukrakbojeon was designated as Gangwon-do Tangible Cultural Asset No.14 on Dec.16, 1971. In the 15th yr. of Joseon King Injo, it was formed by three monks, Yeongseo, Yeonok, Hyeok and was remodeled in the 26th yr. of Joseon King Yeongjo (1750). Rebuilt in the 21th yr. of King Sunjo (1821), it was repaired again in 1977. The diversity and beauty of patterns in the building are incomparable.

Stoned stairs up to Geukrakbojeon were made of one rock by Hongjing and Hong-un in the 37th yr. of King Yeongjo (1761). Under mending in 1977, the stairs became three-rocked.
